The banking and financial services group and the No.1 sponsor of world tennis, BNP Paribas, will sponsor the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup to be held in Japan. The event will be hosted by the Japan Tennis Association (JTA) at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo from 23-28 May 2016. As the partner of all forms of tennis, BNP Paribas encourages widespread participation in the sport. This year, it will donate 10 tennis wheelchairs to support young wheelchair tennis athletes in Japan and help potential players enter the sport.
BNP Paribas will donate the wheelchairs to the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association (JWTA) for distribution to and use by local tennis associations and tennis clubs across Japan. The donated wheelchairs will be on display and available to experience at the “Wheelchair Tennis Experience Booth” at the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup.
Philippe Avril, CEO and Representative Director of BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Limited commented, “We are very proud to be hosting the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup this year in Japan. Through the donation of wheelchairs, we hope that more young people can experience the sport of tennis and help develop the next generation of athletes.”
The BNP Paribas World Team Cup, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015, is the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) flagship wheelchair tennis event and is often referred to as the wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. This year, nearly 250 players from 52 countries and regions will take part in the six-day competition. This is the first time that the BNP Paribas World Team Cup will be staged in Japan, and the second time that it has been held in Asia following the 2012 event in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
