BNP Paribas today announced the appointment of James Gibson as Head of Territory for Japan, succeeding Philippe Avril who will take the position as Senior Advisor.

In this role, James Gibson will act as General Manager of BNP Paribas Tokyo Branch, Representative Director and Chairman of BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Limited.  He will report to Paul Yang, Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking Asia Pacific.

Tony Leung remains as Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Limited.

Commenting on the appointment Paul Yang said: “BNP Paribas is strongly committed to Japan and to supporting our Japanese clients globally. James’ appointment will help us to continue growing our activities in Japan by leveraging BNP Paribas’ unparalleled global network and product expertise.”

James joined BNP Paribas in 2011 in Hong Kong after having held senior positions for several financial institutions in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.  He was most recently Head of Territory for BNP Paribas in Australia and New Zealand.

BNP Paribas today announced the appointment of James Gibson as General Manager of its Tokyo branch, effective October 1, 2019.

Mr Gibson will report to Paul Yang , CEO for CIB Asia Pacific for BNP Paribas.

Tatsuhisa Ishikawa remains Deputy General Manager of the Tokyo branch for BNP Paribas.

Mr Gibson has held senior positions at several financial institutions in Europe, the United States and Asia Pacific. He was most recently Head of Territory for BNP Paribas in Australia and New Zealand.

After three years as General Manager in Tokyo, Nicolas Pillet is relocating to Paris to take up a senior role at BNP Paribas Group-level.
