History of BNP Paribas in Japan

The history of BNP Paribas in Japan dates back to 1867 when Comptoir National d’Escompte de Paris, the predecessor to BNP, opened a branch office in Yokohama. In 1907, Paribas participated in arranging Japanese government bonds issued in Europe.

1867Comptoir National d’Escompte de Paris opens Yokohama Branch Office (-1877).
1907Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas (the future Paribas) participates in arranging Japanese government bonds in Europe.
1968Banque Nationale de Paris opens the Tokyo Representative Office. Status upgraded to Branch Office in 1973.
1973Compagnie Financière de Paris et des Pays-Bas becomes first European company to list on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (-1982 as name changed).
2000Following the creation of the BNP Paribas Group in 2000, BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Limited, Tokyo Branch, and BNP Paribas Asset Management Japan Ltd were founded.
2010The combined entity renamed BNP Paribas Investment Partners Japan Ltd.
2017BNP Paribas Investment Partners Ltd. changes name to BNP Paribas Asset Management Japan Ltd.
2018Cardif Assurance Vie Japan Branch and Cardif-Assurances Risques Divers Japan Branch incorporated as Japanese insurance companies, Cardif Assurance Vie Japan and Cardif Assurances Risques Divers Japan.
